Upgraded Triumph Tiger costs more

2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 XRt and XCx

The 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 has more than 100 upgrades and a 10kg saving, but it will cost between $2400 and $2600 more.

Now called the Tiger 1200, dropping the Explorer from the name, the new bikes arrive in Australia from February.

The XRx will be $24,200 (previously $22,700), the XCx is $25,600 (was $24,200), XRt $27,600 ($25,200) and XCa $29,300 ($26,700). All prices are retail and do not include on-road costs.

The XRt and XCa arrive in February and the XRx and XCx arrive in March. The XR models are all-road bikes and the XC is more off-road oriented.

They might cost more, but this is a substantial upgrade across the range.

Triumph says the upgrades include LED lighting, lighter exhausts, better ergos, six riding modes, up/down quick shifter, updated cruise control, adaptive cornering headlights, full-colour TFT instruments, back-lit controls, keyless ignition, updated cruise control, switchable ABS and traction control, and improved off-road ability.

Part of that improved dirt capability is a shorter first gear and Off-Road Pro” riding mode which basically just switches off all the rider aid systems, including traction control and ABS.

The lighter weight leads to faster acceleration and Triumph has also retuned the 1215cc triple engine for more response and revised the exhausts for more Tiger “growl”.

Styling has been updated with new bodywork, new cast and spoked wheels, metal tank badge and side panels, and new graphics and colours.

To complement the new Tigers, Triumph has launched a range of accessories and Goretex adventure clothes.
