Sad news about the Black Dog Ride of 65 Aussies across America with a tragic accident on Friday (September 25, 2015) near Durango in Colorado.

West Australian motorcycle riders Steve and Barbara Thomas apparently collided with a bush turkey.

Barbara, riding pillion, sustained fatal injuries. Steve Thomas is currently in a critical condition in a Denver hospital. No further details are available at this time although the ride will continue.

Founder of the Ride Steve Andrews, said, “Our Black Dog Ride community are a close-knit bunch and we are devastated by this terrible accident. Our deepest condolences are with Barbara’s loved ones and our fellow riders.”

Channel Nine reporter Simon Bouda is travelling with the group and filed this report.

The group is riding 7000km from New York to LA, visiting 18 cities to kick start conversations about suicide prevention.

They’ve been welcomed by with Mental Health Organisations, Motorcycles Clubs, First Responders and Veteran’s Groups and community members.

The Black Dog Ride across America is partnering with Mental Health First Aid USA to raise awareness and funds for Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training scholarships for military veterans and first responders.
