Terminator is back with a Harley-Davidson

The new Terminator: Genisys movie features a return of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and a thumping big Harley-Davidson jump.

And to celebrate, Harley is giving away a Fat Boy Lo and some Terminator-branded merchandise when you test ride one of their bikes from June 14, 2015.

Arnie made the Harley Fat Boy famous with the sewer jump in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, one of the best-known motorcycle stunts in cinema history after Steve McQueen’s 4m jump in The Great Escape (or at least his stunt double, Bud Ekins).

In the official trailer for the fifth instalment, Terminator: Genisys, hitting our screens on July 1, a bad guy jumps a Harley off the top of a San Francisco tunnel on to a moving bus riding.

In Terminator 2, the 3m jump into the LA storm drain was performed by Arnie’s stunt double, Peter Kent, on a 300kg Fat Boy that was trimmed down and supported by 3cm cables, so that when they hit the ground, the bike and rider only weighed about 80kg. The cables were later digitally erased.

That famous 1990 Fat Boy now sits in the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

While in Australia to promote the new $US170 million Terminator: Genisys film, the 67-year-old former Californian Governor was photographed in Sydney on a new model Fat Boy Lo.Terminator Arnie Arnold Schwazenegger

Harley-Davidson Australia marketing guru Adam Wright says the Fat Boy has been one of their top sellers for many years, due in no small part to the impact of the famous Hollywood jump scene.

“I remember when I was working in retail in the early 1990s and after Terminator 2 hit the big screen we had people flocking into the showroom floors asking to buy a Fat Boy,” he says.

“Arnie has definitely helped inspire people about that iconic model.”

To celebrate the new movie, Harley-Davidson Australia is giving away a Fat Boy Lo in partnership with Paramount Pictures and Network Ten via a promotion on the TENplay website from June 15-28.

They are also promoting a Terminator test-ride week from June 14-21. Book through their online test ride booking engine to ride any of their bikes and you will go into the draw for one of 60 kits featuring two Terminator movie tickets and Terminator-branded portable charging power packs and laser keyboards with a recommended retail value of $270
