BMW has finally broken cover with images and details of the new partially-water-cooled R 1200 GS Adventure.
Like the GS it comes with the new 92kW engine, shaft on the left and muffler on the right.
The main differences are 20mm more suspension travel, 10mm greater clearance, a 30-litre tank now made of lightweight aluminium and the drive’s flywheel mass has been increased by around 950 grams with an extra vibration damper. Of course, styling is different with engine protection bars, tilt-adjustable bench seat, wide enduro footpegs, adjustable foot levers and a larger windscreen with air flaps and hand adjustment like the GS. It comes ABS and traction control like the GS, but a simpler engine mode system of just “rain” and “road” settings. Three more riding modes are offered in the optional Riding Mode Pro which includes Dynamic as well as the off-road settings of Enduro ABS and Enduro ASC.
As most BMWs arrive in Australia with “all the fruit”, they are likely to be standard. And if the GS is anything to go by, it should arrive at the same price as the outgoing model.
The semi-active suspension Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) is an optional extra and has specific requirements for off-road conditions.
BMW Group Australia product communications manager Scott Croaker says they are expecting it to arrive in March/April.
