Women riders celebrate motorcycles

Women riders female

A Biking Ladies Day has been organised to “celebrate and educate female riders”.

Erika Fearman, a self-confessed “weekend chief kitchen bitch” at Bellbird Creek Cafe, Kenilworth, in South East Queensland, says she decided to organise the free event on March 29 “to build a bit of community spirit”.

“The ladies day is mostly intended as a day to build some community spirit and encourage women riders, and potential riders,” she says. “When I started riding I knew absolutely nothing about bikes, and didn’t have any biking friends. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet many wonderful and talented people along the way. I want to share some of that good fortune with other women who ride or are considering giving it a go. It will be free (other than food), informative and fun day.”

CafeErika is organising guest speakers to talk about riding, motorcycles and bike gear. One of the speakers is motorcycle trainer Mark McVeigh of motoDNA who organises women ’s only coaching days. The next women’s day is February 15 at Lakeside historic race track in northern Brisbane.

“It will also be a great opportunity for women who don’t belong to a social riding group to get to know the groups out there and meet other women riders in their area,” Erika says.

Erika rides a Suzuki Gladius which was her first bike. “It’s time for a new bike, but she was my first and I’m a little attached. We’ve been through much together,” she says.

Cafe owner and bike fan Peter Cusack will put on a barbecue buffet lunch for the event and Erika promises “fun, games and prizes”.  “We have organised rides coming from most directions and some ladies will be making a weekend of it and staying locally,” Erika says.
