Suzuki recall over brake rust

Suzuki sued over GSX-R1000 crash incentive

Suzuki GSX-R750 copySuzuki has issued a worldwide voluntarily recall of its sportsbikes over concerns about brake rust.
Bikes affected are the GSX-R600, GSX-R750 and GSX-R1000.
Suzuki Motor Corporation have advised that moisture may be absorbed in the brake fluid after long-term use which could cause rust between the brake piston and return spring inside the piston.
If corrosion is present, it may lead to the brake fluid becoming more acidic and may generate a gas by reacting with the brake piston.
If the defect occurs this could cause the front brake lever to become “spongy”, reducing braking performance.
Suzuki Australia communications manager Andrew Ellis says consumers should contact their dealer who will fix the problem for free. “It is a global campaign and locally affects 12,184 GSX-R 600, 750 and 1000 models from 2004 to 2013, but only occurs if the bike is left in storage for a prolonged period of time,” he says.
“The customer will detect a ‘spongy’ feel in the brake lever, but there is no loss of brake performance. There have been no crashes or injuries reported as a result.
“Letters will be sent out to all owners, and will be fixed for free.”
